We spent a few days doing touristy things, like going to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve for a naturalist tour and going on the "Canopy Tour". We expected the canopy tour to be about visiting the wildlife and plant life in the canopy up close. But it turned out to be a "Disney-like" ride. The point was the thrill of being high off the ground and zipping between trees hanging from a steel cable in a mountain climbers harness. The biggest thrill was unplanned. As I was being swung across between two platforms, a huge crack echoed down the hill followed by a crash. One of the primary forest trees up the valley apparently came down. Not one of the ones we would be in. In fact the guides ran up the hill and could not find the fallen tree in a quick search. I was left hanging, or swinging back and forth, while the echoes died down.
