Fort Ross

back to my home page. To see a map of this area.

In July of 2000 I finally participated in Fort Ross Living History day with my own Baidarka. I carved a new paddle on the beach.

On March 1st 1998 I paddled north from Fort Ross with Roger Lamb.

I took my brother Paul and my friend Dan Leake abalone diving here several times in 1997.

Two sailing ships came to living history day and staged a mock battle in the cove. I only saw a glimps of them as they left.
Fabric covered bidarkas (Russian for kayak) were part of living history day, and the kayakers wore costumes as well.
Russian singers and soldiers.
Musket and cannon practice.

As I paddled around this rock, a group of Stellers sea lions jumped off the rocks directly into the water. I managed to capture a picture of one in mid air!
